Traders Associations withdraws petition pending in the Supreme Court
News - Latest

The Recycled Plastic Manufactures and Traders Associations have withdrawn their petition pending in the Supreme Court against the ban on polythene bags that was introduced by Delhi Government and as reported on EnviroSpectra earlier.

The notification issued by the Delhi government pursuant to Delhi High Court directions to ban polythene bags in the national capital will therefore remain in force for the time being.

Senior counsel Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the petitioner association, submitted before a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices H S Bedi and P Sathasivam that he wants to withdraw the petition in view of the subsequent development and will approach the Delhi High Court against the government notification banning the use of polythene bags in the national capital.

The government notification says that it is being issued in view of the High Court directions.

While the situation is still not clear for now the BAN is in effect, it is a different matter that no one is really enforcing it, as polythene bags can be seen all over the city being used by all and sundry!!! Does it really help to simply issue a statement to BAN without the willingness to enforce it? With Monsoon round the corner, citizens - get ready for clogged drains and sewage water running all over the place because YOU haven't stopped using the deadly bags in first place!
