This is an article on a unique social impact resulted out of mismanagement of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) By City Municipal Authority.
Muradabad city is a district head quarter in western part of Uttar Pradesh Province of India. The municipal authorities collect MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) and they dump it in the trenches provided along the National Highway in front of a village named “BASANTPUR RAMRAI” which is situated 2 kms away from the city.
Careless dumping of MSW has acted as a boon for spreading bad smell / odor, providing breeding base for flies and a good source of disease by toxicating the area in the village. It is mainly the fly menace and odor which has compelled several residents to flee the village for cleaner environment.
Fly menace has affected the villagers where they find it very awkward and frustrated due to presence of numerous flies around. The fly problem has grown to the size where it has taken a different and unique dimension as this environmental impact has affected the social life of villagers.
It has been reported that the numbers of several eligible male villagers who have attained or crossed the age of 40 years are still unmarried due to unwillingness of bride guardians for giving their girl in this village, obviously for the reason of fly menace. When they visit this village, are welcomed by groups of flies and that is what has become a major hazard for the villagers. Thanks to Municipal authorities for not adopting the “Engineered Land Fill” methods.
EnviroSpectra welfare society feels concerned about this unique kind of challenge. There may be so many Muradabads in India and this might be a beginning for this kind of social challenge. We must get aware with various environmental issues few of them have been listed in our objectives.
EnviroSpectra welfare society would feel pleasure to impart the required knowledge to the concerned authority and would like to encourage them for adopting Engineered Landfill methods to dispose off the MSW and to overcome the present menace.
